ChatGPT로 영어공부활용법에 대한 생각

요즘 ChatGPT AI 프로그램이 많이 핫해졌습니다. 언론에서도 유튜브에서도 정말 많이 활용하는 방법에 대해 소개가 되고 있습니다. 

 

그래서 저도 직접 ChatGPT에 접속해서 여러 가지 어떤 주제에 대해서 써달라며 명령해 보고 글을 읽어보기도 했습니다. 이 기능이 신기하신 분들은 이거 가지고도 몇 시간 또는 하루종일 가지고 놀 수도 있겠다는 생각도 해봤습니다. 그것도 힘 안 들이고 아주 손쉽게 타이핑으로 질문 몇 가지만 던지면 되는 거니까요. 

 

하지만 항상 어떤 기능에는 장점이 있으면 반드시 단점도 있기 마련입니다. 

사람은 사고를 하는 동물이잖아요. 고민을 해야 할 때나 궁금증이 생길 때 내 스스로 먼저 생각하는 힘을 길러야 한다고 생각합니다. 너무 한 번에 많은 정보를 손쉽게 처리를 해주는 ChatGPT가 제 관점에서는 무섭기도 했습니다. 

 

이제 많은 분들이 이렇게 생각하고 계실겁니다. 이 인공지능(AI) 기반 프로그램이 화제가 되고 있으니, 구글이나 마이크로소프트 같은 세계 유수기업에서도 ChatGPT AI와 같은 여러 프로그램을 선보인다고 하는데, "과연 영어를 포함하여 제2외국어를 공부하는 의미가 있을까? 이제 곧 인공지능이 더 발전해서 내가 한국어로 얘기하면 실시간으로 상대방의 언어로 바꿔서 바로 들려주는 시대가 도래하는 세상이 올 거 같은데, 이제 힘들이지 말고 기다려보자."라는 생각 해보셨을 겁니다. 

 

아직 그 시대가 도래하려면 '언젠가' 라는 포인트가 너무 추상적이고 '적어도 내가 살고 있는 지금은 아직 오지 않았다'라는 것이 현재 드는 제 생각입니다. 

 

저도 하루 빨리 그런 날이 왔으면 좋겠습니다. 내 전공보다도 내가 하고자 하는 일보다도 영어공부에 사실 많은 시간을 투자하고 있는 우리나라 사람들을 보면 안타깝다는 생각이 들기도 합니다. (저처럼 언어를 배우는 것을 좋아하면 상관이 없겠지만 좋아하지 않은데 강제로 필요한 상황이 발생하다 보니 매번 제2외국어 공부에 많은 시간을 들이는 일이 고민이신 분들도 계시니까요.) 그래도 전세계 공용어가 영어로 되어있고 많은 양의 정보 또한 영어로 표기되어 있으니 현재 우리는 공부를 해야 합니다. ^^

 

하지만 ChatGPT를 가지고 조금은 수월하고 좀 더 똑똑하게 영어공부를 할 수 있지 않을까 해서 제가 사용한 경험을 공유드리고자 하니 참고해주시면 좋겠습니다.
